About Harvey Bernard & Winner’s Mortgage

From Harvey …

My Story

My work today grew out of one of the hardest times of my life.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, I was trying to build a business and followed the common financial advice of the time. Borrow money. Use credit if needed. Grow the business and the income will take care of the debt.

Those ideas are even more common today.

It may have worked for them, but it didn’t work for me. I pushed myself nearly around the clock trying to get out of it. I thought more hours and more sales would solve the problem, but it wasn’t enough.

The business could no longer support the debt. The income was too little. The pressure followed me everywhere. I was running out of options. Soon, there was no choice.

Bankruptcy.

It was devastating—to my reputation, my finances, and my emotional health. It was the toughest time of my life, like living in a fog.

I knew I never wanted to go through that ever again.

During that season, God used a Christian financial ministry at a local church to draw me to Him. There I discovered that I could have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Through faith in Him, I found forgiveness, peace, and a solid foundation for my life.

As I studied money and personal finance, I discovered a very different way to think about debt, stewardship, and the cost of interest.

This hit me hard.

You have to work for every dollar you give away in interest.

You work for it. You give it to the lender. The lender builds their own wealth from it. And you keep working.

That changed the way I thought about money.

It also gave me a mission: teach people the truth about debt, help them become free of loan payments, and help them keep more of what they earn for their own future.

I began teaching these ideas in seminars and one-on-one conversations.

Why I Became a Mortgage & Wealth Advisor

As I taught these principles, one question kept driving me:

Where could I make the biggest difference in people’s financial lives?

God led me to mortgages.

For most families, the mortgage is the largest and most expensive loan they will ever have. It can affect their cash flow, their choices, and how much of what they earn is left to build their own future.

That gave me a clear purpose.

I entered the mortgage profession in 1999 to help people make one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. I brought with me a passion to help people make wise mortgage decisions, understand their choices, and have a plan for what comes next.

That is what being a Mortgage & Wealth Advisor means.

The mortgage is where we begin. Building wealth is where we want that opportunity to lead.

My role is to set up the mortgage and debt side of a client’s financial life so they have a stronger chance to keep more of what they earn, become free of loan payments, and use that money for their own goals.

I also know the mortgage is only one part of your financial life. So I work with financial planners, insurance agents, accountants, estate planning attorneys, and other professionals when needed. Your mortgage must work well with the rest of your financial life.

Guidance Built Around You

Your mortgage has to fit your life. Before I recommend anything, I must understand what matters to you, what financial pressure you carry, and where you want to go.

A lender only looks at whether you meet their rules and guidelines. I focus on how the mortgage fits your real life and whether it can help you move toward less debt, more control, and greater financial freedom.

I also want you to understand the mortgage, the process, and the choices you make along the way.

You make the final decisions. I give you the information, experience, and guidance to decide with confidence.

Your mortgage needs to be affordable so you have the most reasonable opportunity to become free of debt payments and build wealth for your financial freedom.

The Relationship Continues After Closing

A typical run-of-the-mill loan officer sees the closing table as the finish line and the end of the relationship.

I see it as the starting line.

Once the mortgage begins, your financial journey continues. Life changes. Income changes. Goals change. New opportunities come along.

I remain your resource through those changes.

I advise clients how to reduce debt, become free of loan payments, and apply more of the money they already earn toward their own future.

That is where a mortgage can become part of something much bigger: greater wealth, greater choice, and greater financial freedom.

A Reputation Built Through Service

Over the years, clients have often described me as honest, thorough, knowledgeable, dependable, and easy to talk with.

They appreciate clear explanations, careful guidance, and the time I take to understand the larger financial picture. Many have told me they trust that I am looking out for their best interest.

That trust is so important to me because I know how heavy financial pressure can sometimes feel. My own cold, hard experience keeps me focused on giving clients the care and support they need.

Good service means telling the truth, keeping my commitments, staying available, and treating every client’s financial future with care.

A Calling to Serve

My Christian faith is my foundation for how I approach that responsibility.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.”
— Colossians 3:23–24

My work as a Mortgage & Wealth Advisor is one way God has called me to serve Him by serving people well.

“The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.”
— Proverbs 22:7

This resonates so much with me because I have lived it. It is personal to me. I know what that kind of financial pressure feels like. My desire is that you do not have to live it.

My Christian faith shapes how I serve, but it is not a condition of whom I serve. Every client is welcomed and respected at Winner’s Mortgage with the freedom to make their own decisions.

Why Winner’s Mortgage?

I named my company Winner’s Mortgage for a simple reason.

I want people to WIN with their mortgage, WIN with their money, and WIN financial freedom.

To WIN means keeping more control over the money you work so hard to earn. It means reducing unnecessary interest, working toward freedom from loan payments, and creating more opportunity to build your own future.

My long-ago financial failure taught me what it feels like when debt takes that control away.

Winner’s Mortgage grew from a very personal mission: help people keep more of what they earn, gain greater control over their money, and create a better opportunity to build wealth and financial freedom for themselves.
